The Haunted Bridge of Avon...

One of the things that my lady and I like to do is to cruise this state that we call home, and using a couple of books on "Haunted Placed in Indiana", we like to visit them and say "oh..wow..."
This weekend was no different. The last "haunt trip" we did, was last year, ( http://littletoysoldiersandsuch.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html ) when we travelled waaaaay to the south-eastern tip of the state to visit the ruins of The White Hall Tavern...
This time we stayed closer to home...about 10 miles down the road.
The "Haunted Avon Bridge" is a 100+ year old structure that is built in a Roman Aquaduct Arch Style and supports two railroad tracks above French Lick Creek. Legend has it that during construction a "careless/accident prone" workman well...umm..."got careless or had an accident", and was entombed alive in the concrete of the bridge. Naturally speaking, when he fell into the concrete he was alive, (perhaps), but after having it poured on him, he was pretty much most certainly dead. So urban legend has it that this bridge is "haunted", along with the one next to it, "French Lick Bridge", (both bridges are barely mentioned in the book that we use by the author). That's the fun thing about being a folklorist; you can crank out crap and urban legends, etc, and not be concerned with research, or documentation to validate your writings. You are nothing more than cultural-social BS artist.
So on this 3rd of July, we wandered down to the "Haunted Bridges"...

No ghosts originally seen, but plenty of graffitti spotted on the road arch...

Another shot of the bridge, showing the size of this thing, and the local greenery...later on I would make the steep, tricky ascent up to the top of this thing...

A close up shot of one of the arches, spanning French Lick Creek. The date of the bridge is visible as is the weathering of the stone. It's a relatively peaceful place and a very pretty setting...Why if I was a careless/accident prone workman working on a bridge, I don't think I could find a prettier place to allow myself to be entomed alive in concrete other than here...

Climbing to the top of the bridge was tricky...the ground was loose and when I hit the rail bed of gravel, I slipped back two feet for every one I made. Finally, I made it to the top and was greeted by the lonely sight of two rail lines waiting patiently in the hot sun for the next train to come roaring down it....
No ghosts up here waiting for me. Perhaps it's too hot for supernatural activity...
The lady waiting for me down below on the "Haunted French Lick Bridge"...
We found no ghosts, no spectral workmen, nothing spooky at all, and I brought back two old rusted railroad spikes that were laying in the gravel, perhaps placed there by the Spectre of the Entombed Workman...ooooooooooooooooooooh.......
